He then explains that tying your stuff in a bandana and attaching it to a stick is simply impossible in today's world, and you should at least consider a backpack or better still your wagon to carry all your stuff on the big adventure lying ahead. Our young narrator, never given a name, states that before you decide to run away, you should have a reason and then gives several examples of ways that kids think they are being treated unjustly and would be a reason to run away. The story is about why this isn't a good idea! A rather cute moralistic tale that most kids will be able to relate to which is thinking that running away from home will solve all their problems.
